Factionalism has brought down 'your party' before it's even started
After today’s laughable events surrounding ‘Your Party’, I felt compelled to share my thoughts.
As a young person who has felt politically homeless ever since Keir Starmer took over the Labour Party, the announcement of a new left wing party based on democratic principles was music to my ears.
Then seeing that hundreds of thousands of people felt similar gave me a new hope that I did not imagine would come again.
Now a month on all of that hope is gone; this was a major opportunity to unite common thinking people into a place where they could actually put their energy and beliefs to good use and now it has became a further piece of ammunition for the right wing establishment to use against us.
Zarah Sultana MP & Jeremy Corbyn MP @ The World Transformed, Liverpool
Corbyn and Sultana need to get together immediately and sort this out otherwise this party is dead before their first conference has taken place.
This is not a time for infighting, it’s a time for showing a united front against Tommy Robinson, Keir Starmer and Nigel Farage and showing people their path of demonisation is not the way.
From statements made by both sides it’s seems this is mainly a matter of factional control rather than an argument on policy; which makes this whole thing feel even more ridiculous to the ordinary left wing people who just want an option on the ballot box that represent them.
I would like to hope that Corbyn and Sultana can get together and move on with the party in a stronger place, but it is not looking too likely from what’s been said so far.
The one saving grace is that while Corbyn and Sultana argue about how to set up 'Your Party', Green Party leader Zack Polanski is out on the air waves arguing for a left wing politics that helps everyday people.
What is the point of a new divided left-wing party when the greens offer an already established left-wing alternative?
